Hello, I’m Jordan.

I live in Newark and I run Hickman Works on my own. I help small businesses work out what to do about the digital side, then I build it.

I call myself a Jordan of all trades because my working life has been varied: food production, supervising a warehouse, running media and booking systems at a skydiving centre, and teaching myself to build software along the way. What links it all is the part I enjoy most: the switchover. Taking a business that runs on paper, memory and late nights, building something that works, moving everything across, showing people how to use it, and then watching it run smoothly.

How I work

• Listen first. The first conversation is about your business, not a sales pitch.
• Look at the facts. An honest check of what you have now.
• Honest options. Including “you don’t need this”, or “an off-the-shelf app does this better”.
• Build only what you’ll use.
• No lock-in. Every account, domain and subscription is in your name. If you ever want someone else to look after it, you hand them the folder.
• Hand over properly. A plain-English guide, and time spent showing you.

I’m one person, I’m a bit quirky, and I’ll be straight with you. Most people like that. Here’s how to tell if you will.

We’ll get on well if you…

• like straight answers, even when the answer is “you don’t need this”
• tell me honestly what isn’t working, so I fix the right thing
• don’t mind a bit of humour while we get it done
• want to own your website, your Google listing and your data
• reply when I send you something to check, so your job keeps moving

I’m probably not the right person if you…

• want a promise of page one on Google (nobody honest can make one)
• want the cheapest job possible, whatever it takes
• need someone on call at all hours
• would rather I got on with it without talking to you

No hard feelings either way: if I’m not the right fit, I’ll happily point you to someone who is.

One more thing: I’m dyslexic. My quick messages might have the odd typo or a word in the wrong place, so read them for what I mean. Everything I build for you is checked properly before you see it.

Do you use AI?

Yes, as a tool, the way a joiner uses power tools. It makes me quicker, and that keeps your price down. I plan the work, check everything myself and test it before you see it, and I’m the one you talk to. Your customers’ personal details never go into an AI tool.
