Newark-on-Trent · a Jordan of all trades
Get found. Get organised.
Advice first, then the fix. I help local trades and small businesses work out what would actually help, then build it, in your name. Sometimes it’s a website. Sometimes it’s a whiteboard.
Send me your business name. Within 2 working days I’ll tell you the three things I’d fix first. Free, and no sales pitch.

What I do
Advice first. Then the right fix, and only that.
Work it out
Half a day looking at the whole business: what customers see, local prices and competitors, and how the work flows. Then an honest plan, including what you don’t need.
Work it outGet found
Your Google Business Profile set up or fixed, and your details right everywhere. A website that works on a phone. Your logo tidied up, flyers and QR codes, social posts and a launch plan.
Get foundGet organised
How the work flows, from enquiry to getting paid. A Google Sheet built around how you work, the right app set up properly, or a whiteboard and labels. Records moved across and people shown how.
Get organisedCoached by Carly, Balderton
She asked me about building an app. I told her she didn’t need one, and suggested ready-made tools instead. Then I built what she’d actually use:
- A new website she updates herself, from a Google Sheet on her iPad
- Her Google Business Profile set up, in her name
- Her logo redrawn, with a colour and lettering rulebook
- A flyer, QR codes for the door and partners, social posts and a launch plan
- A plain-English handover guide. She owns every account, and her only yearly website cost is the domain
- ListenFirst meeting: I came with questions, not a quote.
- Look at the factsHer old site checked, local prices compared, her own clients asked.
- Honest optionsNo custom app. Ready-made tools, and only what she’d use.
- BuildWebsite, Google profile, logo and rulebook, flyer and QR codes, social posts, launch plan.
- Hand overA ten-page plain-English guide. Everything in her name.
How I work
Fit, not another app.
There are plenty of trade apps. What’s usually missing is someone local who works out what actually fits your business, sets it up properly, moves your data and shows you how it works.
Listen
We talk about your business, not my services. I come with questions, not a quote.
Look at the facts
An honest check of what you have now, and what it’s costing you.
Honest options
Including “use an off-the-shelf app” or “you don’t need this”, when that’s true.
Build and hand over
Only what you’ll use, in your name, with a plain-English guide and time showing you.
Fair warning: I’m a bit quirky and I’ll be straight with you. Is that you?
Sectors I’ve worked in
Real businesses, run better.
Before Hickman Works I built and ran systems inside businesses like these, and trained the people who used them.
Fitness & wellbeing
A website the owner updates from a Google Sheet, a Google Business Profile, and a launch kit.
Food production
A Google Sheets system for a micro-bakery: recipes, stock and production planning.
Adventure sport
Media and tracking systems still in use, and an online booking system that replaced paper tickets, with every member of staff trained in about a month.
Warehousing & logistics
A five-year backlog cleared in four weeks, on about two hours a day, single-handed: a whiteboard and sticker-tagging system, and every item moved by hand.
Horticulture & retail
A greenhouse business set up from scratch, covering everything.
Events & community
Volunteer sign-ups, a rota and a live operations dashboard for a 36-hour sporting world record attempt.
Prices
Estimates up front, in plain numbers.
Every price here is an estimate, not a quote. After we’ve talked, you get a fixed price in writing. Everything is a pack. Pick only the ones you need, add or take one away later, or swap for a bigger one: if you upgrade, what you’ve already paid for the smaller pack comes off.
